Haiti Program
Haiti is one of the countries that subscribe to the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). As such, eight years ago, the Haitian Government pledged to eradicate poverty and hunger, develop environmental sustainability; combat HIV/AIDS, guarantee child health, increase maternal health, spread universal education, assure gender equality and advance global partnership. However, while many countries are effectively engaged in MDGs' path, Haiti's public sector seems unresponsive and challenged to fulfill its pledge.
In 2008, with funding obtained from the Ford Foundation, The Consortium for Haitian Empowerment started to strategically thinks about facilitating process for to help the accomplishment of MDGs with the support of the Haitian Diaspora: Members of the coalition understand the facts that the Haitian Diaspora is essential because of its human, financial and institutional resources.
It is with that understanding that C.H.E is fostering a cooperative exchange between Haiti and US private and public institutions to establish effective leadership with the highest levels of competences. To this end, the Mutual Assistance is organized to bring together Haitians, and US stakeholders, representatives of private and public institutions within the context of achieving MDGs
